Motionspace Architecture + Design in Seattle specified DaVinci Multi-Width Slate for a custom lakefront home. The material combines aesthetics and performance. It was chosen for its wide color range, low maintenance, and resistance to fading. The slate also stands up to high winds and harsh weather from Lake Washington. Its lighter weight allowed for easy integration of solar panels and skylights.

Nazim Nice, Founding Partner at Motionspace, noted the growing need for reliable roofing. With unpredictable weather and stronger storms, long-term performance is essential. Proper roofing ensures protection against future climate challenges.

Project – Vintage Charmer

The couple hired Motionspace Architecture + Design PLLC to remodel their 1,604-square-foot home. To enhance the cramped kitchen, we removed a wall separating it from the dining room and added 21 square feet to its back. Instead of a central island, we designed peninsulas at each end of the kitchen. At the back, a Neolith counter extends to a back deck, facilitated by a Nanawall SL60 sliding/folding door system that provides easy access and weather protection, even during Seattle’s rainy winters.

Project – Twisted Puzzle

Motionspace Architecture + Design PLLC led a new residence design that repositioned the kitchen, living, dining, and powder rooms to the top floor, optimizing views of Lake Washington. Principal architect Nazim Nice notes that while bedrooms are typically placed above living spaces, clients often spend little daytime in them, so this new layout allows for better enjoyment of the views during the day.

In an interview with The Seattle Times, Nazim Nice, principal architect at Motionspace Architecture + Design PLLC, highlighted a common issue in traditional Craftsman homes in Seattle: the lack of a primary bedroom suite with essential features like an attached bathroom and walk-in closet. He noted that homes with three bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs are highly desirable. Nice explained that adding a second story is often the best way to achieve this configuration, which can enhance a home’s resale value.
